Where is 27th Letter Books located?
27th Letter Books is located in Detroit, Michigan, at 3546 Michigan Avenue. We are proud to be a minority-owned independent bookstore serving the local Detroit community and beyond.
What are your store hours?
Our regular store hours are Wednesday-Friday 1-8 PM, Saturday 10 AM-7 PM, Sunday 12-5 PM. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We occasionally extend our hours for special events, so be sure to check out our Events or follow us on Instagram for updates.
Do you offer online ordering and shipping?
Yes! We offer online ordering through our website. Simply browse our selection of new and used books, add your favorite titles to your cart, and proceed to checkout. We ship both locally in Detroit and nationwide so readers everywhere can enjoy books from our curated selection.
Is your bookstore wheelchair accessible?
Yes, our bookstore is wheelchair accessible. We strive to create an inclusive, welcoming environment for all book-lovers. If you have specific accessibility needs, feel free to reach out before your visit so we can best accommodate you.

We appreciate a lead-time of at least a month in advance to ensure time and availability!
Generally speaking, we do not charge a venue fee if it is during regular business hours. In this case, we appreciate your understanding that customers may come in to browse, sometimes in groups, and that we cannot guarantee noise levels. If your event is outside of business hours, we can discuss a space usage fee (e.g. private events).
I wrote a book. Will you carry it?
We currently do not accept any self-published authors.

Ordering with Us
When will I get my book(s)?
For in stock orders we strive to ship them within 7 business day and delivery time depends on the method of shipping selected. For orders with out of stock items, we will provide an estimated date of shipment.
As much as we can, we try to source our books directly from the publisher instead of a distributor; therefore, fulfillment time varies per publisher. We usually place general orders with our vendors on Sunday evenings. Our quickest vendors typically fulfill orders the same week, while others can take up to a week and a half for us to receive the order. In other cases–titles to be reprinted, changing distribution rights, etc.--the order may take longer to arrive.
If I find a book on your site, does that mean it's currently in stock at your store?
Not necessarily. If your order is time sensitive, please call us to confirm availability.
I received a confirmation e-mail. Does this mean that my order is ready to be picked up or has been shipped?
No. This just means that we've received your order, you will be contacted when your order has shipped or is ready to be picked up.
What if I need to return something?
