About Us
Welcome to 27th Letter Books, where literature and community meet. We're a locally owned, independent bookstore dedicated to connecting readers with diverse and engaging literature.
Our Inspiration
In 2018, the seeds of 27th Letter Books were planted after traveling the country in search of meaning amidst the hellscape of late stage capitalism. We found ourselves in independent bookstores everywhere from North Carolina to California. The way these bookstores uplifted their communities resonated with us, as did the educational concept that we learned along the way–that bookstores can be windows, mirrors and sliding glass doors. In the early days, we started our business by doing pop-ups in the summer of 2019. In 2021, we secured our current brick and mortar space in southwest Detroit. It’s here at 3546 Michigan Ave where we hope our community can see itself reflected in our books, while offering new perspectives through which to view the world.

Drew
Co-Owner
Andrew Pineda is a Filipino-American writer currently rooted in Southwest Detroit. He earned his MFA from the University of Nevada Reno at Lake Tahoe and has essays featured in Barrelhouse Magazine, Crab Orchard Review, and elsewhere. When he isn’t writing, he's selling books as a co-owner of 27th Letter Books or listening to records and cooking.
Erin
Co-Owner
Erin Pineda made a promise in her 30s to stop denying she’s a poet (even though her seven-year-old-self’s journals are full of initial poetic attempts that focus heavily on the end rhyme). She’s also a bookseller and co-owner at 27th Letter Books. She’s grateful to live in interdependence with other beings. Her writing and work in the literary arts aims to honor the joyous efforts of reciprocity.
Zach
Manager
Zach Weedon is a musician, writer, and father. For over a decade, he’s performed in many bands and venues both locally and nationally. His writing has been featured in publications like Maggotbrain and elsewhere. He joined 27th Letter Books in 2024.
